How often have you heard the expression, "I'm bored" coming from the mouths of your children during the too hot summer days? Or maybe, "There's nothing to do!" Before you despair, there are several creative crafts for children that you can pull out. Examples include, coffee filter butterflies, marble paintings, or sock puppets.

Coffee Filter Butterflies
To make these cute little creatures, you'll need the following supplies:
* coffee filters
* markers or dot painters
* clothespins
* pipe cleaners
* old pie plates
* spray bottle with water

First, have your child color the coffee filter any way they want...the more color, the better!
Next, put the coffee filter in the pie plate and spray some water on it. This blends the colors together nicely.
After the coffee filter dries, scrunch it up in the middle and place the clothespin around it. Spread out the wings as much as possible.
Then, fold the pipe cleaner in half and cut off a bit (so it's not as long). These are the antenna. Place the pipe cleaner in the top of the clothespin.
Draw a face on the clothespin and before you know it, you've got a colorful butterfly smiling back at you! This creative craft for children that will entertain your little ones for hours!

Marble Paintings
Necessary supplies include:
* old pie plates
* paint trays or wax paper
* paper
* paint
* marbles

First, squeeze different colors of paint either in a paint tray or on some wax paper.
Next, place the piece of paper in the pie plate.
Then, have your child place a marble in the paint color of their choice. Make sure the marble is covered in paint (be sure your child is wearing a paint shirt to cover their clothes).
Place the paint-covered marble on the paper in the pie plate. Move the pie plate back and forth slowly, allowing the marble roll around and spread the paint across the paper.
Repeat with other marbles dipped in different colors of paint. When your child is finished, this creative craft for children will be a masterpiece that will delight everyone!

Sock Puppets
What you will need:
* old sock
* yarn
* wiggly eyes
* needle and thread (an adult will have to use these!)
* felt or even foam stickers

First, have your child choose the color yarn they want for the puppet's hair.
Next, the adult will need to sew the hair on the puppet using the needle and thread. This should take only a few small stitches.
Then, have the child place the wiggly eyes on the puppet. Most wiggly eyes have a sticky back that can be easily placed on the puppet.
Have your child (under your supervision) cut shapes out of felt or foam stickers for the mouth and nose. If you use felt, the adult will need to stitch it on.
Upon completion, this puppet will provide hours of entertainment as your child makes up one puppet show after another!
