The Upper Thread Keeps Breaking: 1. Check the Tension - Sometimes when your upper thread keeps breaking, your tension is too tight. 2. Check your Thread - Are you using old or cheap thread? Sometimes when the upper thread keeps breaking it is because your thread is too old or cheap, therefore you are using weak thread which will break easily. Or you could not be using the right kind of thread. For example if you bought thick quilting thread instead of an all purpose thread. 3. Check your Needle - Sometimes if you have used a fabric that has some type of "glue" within the fabric, or some type of sparkles held on by fabric glue, or if you have used some type of heat bond or wonder under, your upper thread will keep breaking. This is caused by build up in the eye of the needle from the glue in the fabric. Keep a paper towel with vegetable oil on it near by and every once in a while wipe your needle. This helps the glue not stick to your needle. Your Stitches are too Loose or too Tight: 4. Check your Bobbin - Many times too loose stitches are due to incorrect winding of the bobbin. 5. Check your Tension - Many loose or tight stitches are caused by not having the correct tension. Check your upper tension and your bobbin tension to make sure they are correct. On most machines, the upper tension needs to be set between 4 and 5. 6. Check your Threading - Make sure your upper thread and bobbin have been threaded and placed correctly. Your Machine is making a Loud Sound and will not Work: 7. Check your Take-up Lever - The most common problem with loud sound is your upper thread came out of the take-up lever. Make sure the take-up lever is threaded. 8. Clean your Machine - If your sewing machine is beginning to sound like a truck, it is time to clean it. Over time, dust, lint, thread, and fabric pieces can get caught into intrigue parts of the machine. This can damage a sewing machine unless regular cleaning and maintenance is done. Every 8 hours of use your sewing machine needs to be cleaned and oiled and the needle should be replaced. Make sure your machine is not a self-oiling machine. If it is, then you do not need to oil it. 9. Check your Bobbin - Many times a machine will make a loud sound if the bobbin is not placed in the case correctly. 10. Check your Bobbin Winder - Many times it's a simple thing of forgetting to move your bobbin winder button back over to the other side. 11. Check your Hand Wheel - Over usage and time the hand wheel may become a little loose. Every once in a while check your hand wheel and make sure it is tight.
